Appetite ↔ Action

MALE KUDU EATING - Welgevonden Game Reserve, South Africa

More than a motivator,
marker of hunger,
it drives decisions,
sometimes destiny

Herald to action,
heartbeat of life,
this humble impulse
will be heard

Appetite begs
not only for food

it offers a door
to understanding

Quotes to consider:

“A well-governed appetite is a great part of liberty” – Seneca

“Reason should direct and appetite obey” – Marcus Tullius Cicero

“Appetite comes with eating; the more one has, the more one would have.” – French Proverb

“Always rise from the table with an appetite, and you will never sit down without one.” – Horace Greeley

“As we become purer channels for God’s light, we develop an appetite for the sweetness that is possible in this world. A miracle worker is not geared toward fighting the world that is, but toward creating the world that could be.” – Marianne Williamson

“Doth not the appetite alter? A man loves the meat in his youth that he cannot endure in his age” – William Shakespeare

Beautiful writing and the photographs are world class.
I remember writing – years ago – that I didn’t claw my way to the top of the food chain to eat garnish 😉
Have a great Sunday, Naomi.

LOL! You’re brilliant, Cindy. Thanks for sharing that and have a wonderful day too 🙂

Cindy’s just said it for me…I love your writing on appetite, especially in the context of the beautiful photos of the wild. It reminds me, on the day I must start a diet of sorts, that appetite is a natural force to help up all move forward. Mustn’t view it as an enemy… just listen to it, maybe..

Naomi October 31, 2010 at 8:34 pm

How wonderfully said, Kate, thank you – and all the best with your ‘diet of sorts’! In light of your words, may it be a breeze 🙂

A German dentist said to me, in 1966, as we dined at a Riesling Wine Festival in the south of France, “Show me a woman with a good appetite and I’ll show you a woman who…” He was not able to finish his sentence. Seemed the wine won. I guess he didn’t make it big…his quote is noticeably absent amongst yours! 🙂

Tears in the Kudus eyes and hairs all countable. Dave’s incredible talent.

How intriguing, Amy – must’ve been one fabulous festival 😀

Thank you for appreciating Dave’s work. I especially love the Kudus!
