Belonging

BELONGING

Acknowledged or not,
there’s no escaping
our own
belonging

Born of one,
born of another,
kissed into being
by the same breath

That bonds a baby
to its mother,
and cleaves a leaf
to a tree

The same sacred
infinitesimal
fibres
of life itself

Know our names,
cradle our souls,
which sing with
gratitude

At being a part
of the perfectly
complete
Whole

I loved the poem. The closer people are to other people, the better off their lives become.

Thanks so much, Lin! As poems arise so instinctively, I sometimes hesitate to post them – so really appreciate your encouragement. Love you too 🙂

Thank you for a perfect start to week, Noami. Though your whole poem is so well expressed, the line that resonates the most right now is – “Kissed into being with the same breath” – yes!

FL Wright is my all-time favourite architect and largely because of the very quote you chose.

Beautiful photo of the baboons. And your poem is so sweet. As I am writing this my daughters dogs are laying to my left spooning each other with their legs “belongingly” entertwined. They are so sweet. They are sisters and I think they know that. All afternoon I watched three squirrels play together. They were so cute having fun together. My neighbor has set a trap to catch them and remove them to another as we are having problems with them. I emailed him and said oh please don’t take them away from each other. They are so sweet together. I wish they weren’t so destructive.

Thanks so much, Linda 🙂

So happy for your daughter’s dogs & hoping for the best for the squirrels. I lived in a beautiful place as a child, which was swarming (in the best possible way) with grey squirrels. They lived in the old oak trees, and were never a pest at all – just fantastic fun to have around.

George Clooney is mine, all mine. And a house on the beach. I see it. It’s in my possesion. 🙂
